In World magazine's "Quotables: of August 29, 2009, Anh "Joseph" Cao of Louisiana's 2nd Congressional District is reported to have said: "I know that voting against the healthcare bill will probably be the death of my political career, but I have to live with myself, and I always reflect on the phrase of the New Testament, 'How does it profit a man's life to gain the world but to lose his soul." [sic] the segment further states: "U.S. Rep. ANH "JOSEPH" CAO, R-La., stating that he would vote against any healthcare bill that included federal funding for abortion. Cao represents a majority Democratic district." (Cao beat Democrat William Jefferson who was facing charges at the time, and currently "Feds seek 30 year sentence for William Jefferson": http://www.aipnews.com/talk/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=9933.)
I have written Rep. Ccao citing my concerns as listed in the thread [with corrections] "What's wrong with Stupak amendment failure to stand for sanctity of human life": http://www.aipnews.com/talk/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=9893 and ending with an appeal for hm to renounce or denounce his own vote for H.R. 3962 (Health Care Monster reform bill) and a reference to his own quotation from above. I urge others to write him also. You might refer to "VICTORY OR DEFEAT: THE STUPAK AMENDMENT": http://www.aipnews.com/talk/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=9971. From my watching of the vote on C-Span I recall he did not vote for H.R. 3962 until it had received 218 votes required for passage. You may want to review "Is Health Care A Human Right? - Dr. David M. Berman": http://www.aipnews.com/talk/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=9974. If Mr. Cao is a man of good conscience and courage, as his remarks seem to indicate, perhaps he can be persuaded to the right.
