*** Note: Abortions have steadily decreased for the past six consecutive years in Flint, Michigan, due in large part to a pro-life billboard campaign targeting African Americans that started at the same time. (www.mdch.state.mi.us) Michigan has been in a recession since at least 2003, and Flint currently has the highest unemployment rate in the Nation - in excess of 28%. Despite our city and county being hit hard by the economy with the massive loss of General Motors' jobs, more Moms are choosing life here. We can directly attribute this miracle to our billboards that contain the hard-hitting truth about abortion, as well as the efforts of our Director of Black Americans for Life, Brenda Battle-Jordan. Battle-Jordan said, "I go into the heart of the city where the poor women live who are seeking abortion and share the truth with them about the disparity of abortion among African Americans and how we have been targeted by the abortion industry for years. I inform them of the relationship between abortion and breast cancer. Abortion is the #1 killer of African Americans." It is disturbing to see that abortions increased overall in our state, especially in Black women where they accounted for 45.4% of the abortions up from 41.9% in the previous report. In addition, women between the ages of 20-24 still account for most of the abortions followed by women over 30 years of age. We feel our strong abstinence message is making a difference with our teenagers, and we will continue to provide men and women with alternatives to abortion like adoption. Credit also goes to the sidewalk counselors who pray in front of the two abortion clinics in our city and offer women other options to abortion. We now have five crisis pregnancy centers where women can receive free ultrasounds, resources, parenting classes and counseling as they carry their babies to full term. Together, we have a great team working to save pre-born children from abortion, as well as preventing the physical and psychological scars women face when they experience abortion. We are grateful to all of you who donate monies and time to give every woman contemplating abortion an opportunity to give her pre-born child the right to take his or her first breath. Great will be your reward! For questions, please contact our office. |
