The National Republican Senatorial Committee ("NRSC" ) is running promotions on its website to raise money. The promotions feature Arlen Specter and encourage people to give the NRSC money to beat Specter.
There is just one problem.
The NRSC decided to get in the Florida Primary and endorse Florida Governor Charlie Crist, who yesterday admitted he would be just like Arlen Specter in the United States Senate.
Florida media is reporting that, having taking the "no tax" pledge from American for Tax Reform last week, Governor Crist will not use his veto pen to stop the Florida Legislature from raising taxes to balance the state's budget.
More troubling, Governor Crist himself said yesterday that were he in the United States Senate, he would have voted with Arlen Specter to support Barack Obama's +$1 trillion stimulus bill.
Senator Mel Martinez voted against the bill. Crist's Republican primary challenger, Marco Rubio, also opposed the stimulus.
Nonetheless, Senator John Cornyn, the NRSC, and the Senate Republican leadership have lined up behind the tax hiking, Obama supporting Florida Governor.
Perhaps the Senate Republicans should just merge with the Senate Democrats instead of pretending to believe in different principles. Sincerely yours, Erick Erickson Editor, RedState.com
