American Independent Party Sends Email to Hundreds of Thousands of
Californians, Criticising Major Parties

On Friday, January 30, 2009, Markham Robinson, chairman of the American Independent Party of California, sent an email message to several hundred thousand California voters, calling attention to the differences between the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, and the American Independent Party.

The American Independent Party is the nation's third largest and fastest growing political party based on voter registration.

Among the differences cited were their views of the pro-life movement, the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, limited versus expansive government, national defense, national sovereignty, tax system reform, and their views on the role of the federal government in marriage and family issues.

The full text of the email follows:

Dear Fellow American,

Are your values and beliefs being promoted honestly and with integrity by your political party?

Where does the Democratic Party stand on issues important to you?

Life. They call it “choice.” You and I know it is a euphemism for being pro-abortion.

The Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Democrats have been leaders in restricting gun rights for many years.

Restoring Limited Government. Their idea of “compassionate government” has led to spending without regard for how much debt is created. How compassionate is it to burden a debt on future taxpayers? And Universal Health Care? It sounds nice, but this is a euphemism for socialized medicine and all its associated problems.

Peace through Strength. Under Clinton and Carter the military was weakened considerably.

Sovereignty. Sovereignty for them is subordinate to issues like “taking care of the environment.” Again, who can be against the environment? But we put our nation at risk when we allow outsiders to direct our paths.

Fair Taxation. They show no desire to simplify the tax system or to make it a just system. They believe it is an instrument of social change and wield it as a weapon to take from one and give it to another in the name of a false notion of justice.

Marriage and the Natural Family. By and large it has been Democrat-controlled legislatures and judicial appointees who have led the charge in degrading the natural structure of families.

Where does the Republican Party stand on these important Issues?

Life. Key Republicans have called for "Sending Abortion Back to the States." They are simply evading their moral duty to use their Constitutional power to enforce equal protection of the laws for the unborn within the scope of their authority.

The Right to Keep and Bear Arms. While they support the second amendment with lip service, they more often just tone down the restrictions proposed by Democrats. How effective will this be in the long run?

Restoring Limited Government. Really? We’ve just seen a Republican-controlled Congress spend more than any Democratic Congress ever did. It makes you wonder if they are on the side of limited government after all, doesn’t it?

Peace through Strength. The armed forces under George Bush and George W. Bush were reduced in size and not strengthened to match the tasks they were called to perform.

Sovereignty. The party favors the big corporation at the expense of free enterprise. In addition, Republican Party support for multi-national corporations is not compatible with a respect for national sovereignty.

Fair Taxation. What have they done to bring about any fairness and simplification to this system?

Marriage and the Natural Family. Republican leaders, even when in a majority, have failed to to use their ability to define the rules for lower courts on the issue of marriage and family. They’ve also failed to provide leadership in this essential national debate.

Where does the 3rd Largest Party, America’s Independent Party, stand on these issues important to you?

Life. We recognize the personhood of all unborn children and their protection by the 5th and 14th Amendments.

The Right to Keep and Bear Arms. We not only believe in the right to keep and bear arms, but also the broader right to self-defense. Liberty cannot be protected if people are stripped of the physical means of doing so.

Restoring Limited Government. We seek to restore the intended balance between the three separate branches of our government, and to strictly limit government to the Enumerated Powers granted and expressed by the will of the people of the United States in our Constitution. All existing functions of the Executive branch that are outside of those Enumerated Powers must be eliminated. All spending and regulation by the Legislative branch that lies outside the Enumerated Powers must cease. Judges who attempt to legislate from the bench, or who abandon the clear principles of our Constitution, must be checked if liberty and justice are to prevail in our society once again.

Peace through Strength. We believe in a supremely strong, prepared, and well-equipped civilian-controlled United States military, and a bold, visionary and intelligent program of principled constructive engagement with the rest of the world.

Sovereignty. We completely oppose any action that surrenders the moral, political or economic sovereignty of the United States and its people, and demand the immediate restoration of that sovereignty wherever it has been eroded. We demand the immediate securing and continuous vigilant maintenance of our sovereign territory and borders.

Fair Taxation. We support the repeal of the 16th and 17th Amendments, recognizing that these repeals must be accompanied by a restoration of limited government and strict limits on modes of taxation.

Marriage and the Natural Family. We seek the passage of a Federal Marriage Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and oppose all attempts everywhere to redefine marriage as being anything but what it has always been: the union of one man and one woman.

If you find yourself agreeing with America’s Independent Party on these issues, we’d like to ask you to do two things.

1.    Visit our website, www.selfgovernment.us/platform, and read our platform. It’s short, but the details are presented plainly. The American Independent Party of California website can be viewed at www.aipca.org.

Beautiful, Markham. Thanks. I've been thinking about best use of the inside three panels on our simple precinct caucus announcement brochure. I like the idea of a comparison table highlighting these major differences you describe.

I posted Markham's dispatch in the comments at www.digg.com and "a 23 year-old guy from Michigan (US) ... " wrote ...

I will digg this. But isn't there a lil confusion because there are already independents from Ross Perot? I agree with it though.
Does anyone know what happened to the Ross Perot independents?  Are they still organized?
Is there someone willing to respond to our like-minded friend in Michigan?

Perot was a pro-abort. The Reform Party which sprung from his efforts is for all intents and purposes dead. It didn't have a principled base.

Can I quote you?

Sure. I just said it publicly.
