“I’m very lazy about writing when I’m not getting paid,” Alterman said. “So if I take the trouble to write something in any detail on the list, I tend to cannibalize it. It doesn’t surprise me when I see things on the list on people’s blogs.”

“I’m very lazy about writing when I’m not getting paid,” the writer said!?

You've got to be kidding me! Is this the mentality of the people writing on the list?

They give journalists a bad name. They are supposedly improving their writing through this list. What does that mean? Shouldn't writers be improving their writing through writing classes and books, seminars, mentors, and perhaps objective critique from an editor or someone knowlegable in writing techniques? Since when does a journalist improve their writing capabilities through smoozing with policy wonks?

And now that we know this writer is lazy when he's getting paid, unlike the rest of the journalists out there that spend all hours of the night polishing and editing their work after researching and writing, perhaps we ought to show his quote to his editor. Hope he wasn't counting on a pay raise!
