Arizona's new immigration law will go into effect in July, but other state legislatures are considering such a law in their own states.
While the mainstream media misrepresents the law, Americans who actually take the time to read the statute discover they're being deceived. For example, an Associated Press reporter -- John Miller -- on Friday states in his news story that the Arizona law "requires police to check the immigration status of anyone they think is in the country illegally. Violators face up to six months in jail and $2,500 in fines, in addition to federal deportation."
"Miller's statement on it's face is false," said Sid Franes, a former police detective and owner of a private security firm.
"The law requires police officers to check the immigration status of those people whom they have "reasonable suspicion" committed a criminal act or traffic offense. It is merely another part of processing a suspected offender," he said.
State officials and political candidates in about 20 U.S. states have voiced their desire employ similar measures. Arizona-style legislation may have the best chance of passing in Oklahoma, which in the past gave police more authority to check the immigration status of people they arrest.
Meanwhile, [Alleged] President Barack Obama has ordered the Justice Department to fight the Arizona law, which he claims is racist and unconstitutional. Officials in Madison, Wisconsin couldn’t agree more and they want illegal aliens in their beloved city to feel safe.
Besides vowing to oppose any measure that encourages discrimination based on race, their resolution asks law enforcement officers and county jail officials not to report illegal aliens who are booked for committing crimes of violence or property crimes to federal law enforcement agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
This sort of protection is nothing new. Madison has long offered illegal immigrants sanctuary along with several other Wisconsin municipalities, including Racine and Dane County. Last year Wisconsin passed legislation that gives illegal aliens discounted tuition at the state’s public colleges and universities, while American citizens living in other states have to pay more costly "out-of-state" tuition and fees.
